Company Profile
Hamilton Training and Development (HTD) was founded in 1997 by Patricia (Trish) Woollcott to provide training and consultancy services to businesses wishing to develop their staff by taking advantage of the National Vocational Qualification initiative. HTD are able to offer a range of services from supplying Assessors and Internal Verifiers to helping businesses become accredited centres in their own right. Working with the Training and Development Lead Bodies such as BTEC and City & Guilds, with regional Training and Enterprise Councils and by ensuring our clients apply the Lead Body and national standards, HTD have been able to build a creditable portfolio. In 1998, the company added to its range of services by offering personal development techniques to individuals, in the form of clinical hypnotherapy. HTD has set up and now runs two clinics in health clubs local to the Southend on Sea area and more recently has extended the service further by offering home visits for clients who do not wish to attend one of the clinics. Most recently, the two arms of the business have been brought together to offer professional NVQ consultancy to the UK College, London. The UK College is one of the country's leading centres for alternative therapies. HTD also has professional links with IT consultants, Business consultants and Knowledge Management consultants and can therefore provide a wide range of professional services to businesses and individuals, alike.
The Company Name
(and our slogan 'Progress Through Development')
Why Hamilton Training and Development? Hamilton is the family name of the company's founder, and training and development is what we do! But seriously,...
![]() The Hamilton Hunting Tartan |
The Hamiltons are an old Scottish family with their roots firm in Scotland's heritage. Like most Scottish families, Hamilton has its own tartan, the Hamilton Hunting, an example of which can be seen in the illustration on the left. |
| One of the biggest influences on our founder, Trish, was her grandfather Patrick 'Paddy' Hamilton, known affectionately as Di - 'Di' being the Scottish vernacular for grandfather. Paddy had a normal schooling but at the age of 14 left the education system and, like so many of his time, went to work 'down the pit' to help his father support their family. Paddy worked as a miner at the Aitken Colliery in Kelty, Fife. Trish was born and raised in Kelty. She moved south of the border to Southend on Sea, Essex in 1971. | ![]() Patrick 'Paddy' Hamilton |
Paddy died in 1997, but all through his life he was fiercely proud and did not brook carelessness or unprofessionalism. He imparted these values to Trish through example, and it is her determination to ensure that her company which bears his name shall operate and conduct itself with the same pride and attention to care and professionalism.
When Trish established Hamilton Training and Development, she wanted to provide opportunity to others in achieving recognised qualifications in their vocational areas. The National Vocational Qualification scheme provides the vehicle for people to be able to do this and so Trish has focussed the company on providing assistance to those wishing to participate in the scheme.
The company slogan 'progress through development' highlights the belief that individuals and organisations alike are able to achieve greater things and reach higher goals by expanding their horizons: development is synonymous with progress, one leads to the other and neither can be achieved alone.
To help turn this belief into reality, Hamilton Training and Development operates at two levels. At one level, we set out to help companies. We help them to develop both the body corporate and their staff. We are keenly active in the training arena, working with individuals and companies by providing training and consultancy services in NVQ related areas. We also compete in the business consultancy arena, offering consultancy services for information technology and information systems issues, and we have an active network of like-minded companies who offer knowledge management and enterprise resource planning consultancy. Our clients include major high street stores, colleges, local government, training companies, and many others. On the second level, we help individuals, who for whatever reason feel hindered by some personal facet or who need help in realising their potential, to discover considerable new confidence by having their concerns addressed through clinical hypnotherapy. We have helped many people regain their well-being so that they are able to go on and overcome their personal obstacles and progress in their social and working lives.
