Clinical Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is nothing extraordinary. It is a perfectly natural condition which all of us experience practically every day without even being aware of it. How many times have you driven to work over the same well-travelled route only to find that for at least part of the journey you may not have been fully aware of what you were doing? We often hear ourselves saying things like, "I must have been on auto-pilot this morning"? Of course you weren't, it's just that your mind allowed you to do the things it's well-practiced in without you being aware. Your subconscious took over for a few moments and drove the car quite safely while your conscious mind was preoccupied with something else. It may have been reading a signpost or an advertising hoarding, or thinking about today's meeting with your clients. Whatever it was, your subconscious dealt with the rest of what had to be done perfectly safely.

In hypnosis, the conscious mind is relaxed so that the subconscious comes to the fore, because it is the subconscious that deals with the innermost self and it is there that the answers to whatever is being sought can be found.

The state of hypnosis is just a state of deep relaxation. When you are in this state, you remain fully aware of your surroundings and of what is happenning. You are in control and only things that you allow to happen will happen. No doubt you have seen stage hypnotists seemingly making people do all kinds of things that they would perhaps not do so readily outside of hypnosis, but the fact remains that at all times they are in control of what's happening and can choose not to do something if they wish. What the hypnotist has done is to bypass their conscious decision making process and implanted suggestions within their subconscious which they are happy to respond to.

Hypnotherapy is not stage hypnotism. It uses the power of the relaxed mind to allow the subconscious to explore the reasons behind one's behaviour or one's problems. When harnessed, it can release all sorts of hidden potential to improve one's life. Its most widely known therapeutic uses are probaly in reducing weight or stopping smoking, but there are innumerable other applications. Further down this page are a list of some thirty such areas where hypnotherapy has proved to be an effective aid.

In broad terms, hypnotherapy can be used: to increase self-esteem or performance (sports, social and work-related); in pain relief (note relief - hypnotherapy cannot cure a broken leg); in coping with fears; dealing with and correcting physical symptoms which are psycologically induced (nerves, blushing, skin conditions, etc) and in improving memory.

No medical condition is ever treated by a hypnotherapist without the full consent and co-operation of the client's doctor.

Clinical Hypnotherapy for Businesses

How can hypnotherapy help your business? In today's climate of increased pressure on employees to perform, of increased burden placed on senior managers and executives by both legislation and the competition, stress has become a significant issue in the workplace. There are a number of stress management techniques that are regularly employed in organisations but quite often, although the immediate burden of stress may be reduced, the stress innevitably returns and often to a greater degree. Hypnotherapy can help on three levels. Firstly, it can address individuals' personal problems which may be affecting their levels of performance. Secondly, it increases performance directly by helping individuals to reach their full potential. Thirdly, it can address the level of stress directly by providing well-proven and trusted relaxation techniques. This three-pronged approach benefits both the individual and the business. Stress in the workplace is reduced, performance is improved and people feel better within themselves. If your or your staff's performance improves as a result of hypnotherapy, won't your business' performance improve, too?

Clinical Hypnotherapy for Individuals

Much of our lives is affected by things about ourselves with which we are unhappy. It may be the fear of spiders that prevents you from going into the garden shed to get the sun lounger on hot summer days, it may be that tendency to blush or stutter when meeting new people that prevents you from socialising, or sleeping problems which prevent you from feeling refreshed and raring to go in the mornings. You may be a smoker and wish that you weren't or you may wish to get back into that outfit you bought before you put on that bit of extra weight. For some people, things may be a bit more serious and really disrupt their lives and their well-being - panic attacks, hyperventilation, or infertility, for example. It really doesn't matter whether its a big problem or a small one - if it affects you and the way you live your life, it's important and we can help you overcome it.
